Volkswagon Shoot in Hancock Park

While you would never know to look at it, Hancock Park is one of the most photographed sections of Los Angeles. Located near to Hollywood (zipcode 90028), Hancock Park is in zipcodes: 90004 and 90010. It is the nicest upscale neighborhood near to Hollywood short of the Hollywood Hills themselves. This was a very big shoot, with productions trucks on all sides of the intersection (unpictured). The soundman is in the background, just to the left of the vehicle.

Special Event Ahead

This is Sunset Blvd. looking west towards Vine Street. The Bank of America sign is visible. Usually, the Arclight Theater is the scene of movie premiers and as such, the city of LA closes the south side of Sunset, where the Arclight is. I've never seen a street closure like this before, except for the Oscars on Hollywood Blvd. so, dear readers, stay tuned. I will try to get some photos, tomorrow. Monday August 16th. I've returned up to Sunset Blvd. and lots of activity at the Arclight, which hosts the premier of the movie The Switch. Jason Batman and Jennifer Aniston star in this vehicle.

That is Brazilians celebrate their national soccer team's victory over North Korea, earlier today.

These pix were taken on Vine Street in front of the Nike/Montalban Theater.

Serra do Boné Loosely Translated Means . . .

I was taking a break (and trying to get a photo of any cute gal) at Bricks & Scones again, today. The special coffee on offer is:

Serra do Boné

At $2.30 (US) per cup that's good money for a cup of joe. Yet, as I scoured the 'net for some info about this bean, I was rewarded with the fact that it won Brazil Cup of Excellence® Competition and Auction - 2006 Edition.

Serra do Boné translates loosely to mean The Mountain's Cap. I see it on the 'net for $18 a pound. Hmmm ... your Rounder wonders how many cups of coffee per pound. I dont' know Portuguese pronunciation so I say it: Ser-ra do Boney.

Hollywood "Social" Nightclub

This building is an art deco era structure. It's been a number of businesses over the decades and is currently called Social Hollywood on the Google Map. However it isn't in operation on the date of this photo (and post).

Sic Transit Gloria Mundi (Latino)

While passing the former record store: Ritmo Latino on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood California, I was surprised to see it's total demise.

Even the
Ritmo Latino website is only an online store.

Where once were the handprints of Thalia, Alejandro Fernández, and several other celebrated Latin musicians, singers and talents, their plaques are now laying on the sidewalk as dust.
Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.

My heart broke when I saw this.

Sign By Design - The World Famous Hollywood Sign

The World Famous Hollywood Sign is in danger of being removed by real estate developers. The Sign, which sits near the summit of Mount Lee, has become a symbol of all things Hollywood. The Trust for Public Land has started a campaign to "Save the Sign". About 12 million dollars is needed to put the sign into park space and conserve it in perpetuity.

The Trust's webpage shows this photo of the sign being draped with new wording. This isn't the first time such a change has happened. some University of Southern California students draped it to make it read Hollyweed some decades ago.

The sign was originally an advertisement for land in Hollywood. In the beginning it said,

Hollywoodland

Above is a pix of the Hollywood Land Realty in Beachwood Canyon Village.

Warren The Ape - on location

The scene is Ivar Street in Hollywood. MTV has a cast, crew and director for the forthcoming show: Warren The Ape. According to the Rounder's inside sources it's got puppets and actors, of which pictures show some.

The nice "lady" with the excessively short skirt did camp it up a bit.

Here's a shot of the flatbed truck. It's even more colorful than this photo can show.

It was a warm day, with the thermometer in the upper 70s when I shot this pix, but somehow, I think the lack of tops had nothing to do with the temperature.

Another Beauty At The Grove

Your Hollywood Rounder stands corrected. The name of "The Grove" is not "The Grove". It the Farmer's Market at "The Grove". This illogically named place corresponds exactly to the other mall, in Glendale, California named: The Americana At Brand. The model seems unlikely to think I've taken a candid (enough) picture of her.

Forgot Her Bottom?

When I first saw this woman, I though she had forgotten to wear clothing below the blouse.Once she was close enough to take a photo, I knew better!

What is it with Women and Forever 21 clothing?

While not immediately appartent, these two women are resting along the path at "The Grove" in front of Forever 21, a ladies clothing store. The one on the left sat there a long time as I walked the length of the mall from top-to-bottom, so to speak. That takes over 5 minutes. This is unusual as the sitters present quite an odd image. There are park benches on the other side of this walkway, a far more usual place for shoppers to rest. If I had to suggest a good place to "girl watch", it would be on the park benches opposite Forever 21. There are always cute gals coming in and out.

Tusquellas At The Farmer's Market

Dear Reader:

There is nothing I can do about the color of this photo. Believe me, I tried. It's the restaurant portion of Tusquellas fish market and restaurant at the Farmer's Market. They have excellent seafood or I wouldn't include this bad a picture of the place. Yes, you will see a celebrity here occasionally. I saw Paul Sorvino once-upon-a-time.

Still Life With Cosmetics

This is a woman sampling cosmetics at a kiosk at "The Grove". I'm putting "The Grove" in quotes to distinguish it from any grove, a grove, the grove (of trees) and the like. For some very odd reason, Los Angeles has bad naming conventions. Drivers are constantly confused by the terms: Santa Monica Boulevard and little Santa Monica Boulevard. In Beverly Hills, parallel to and immediately south of Santa Monica Boulevard is little Santa Monica Boulevard. Few tourists or non-BH natives know about this and no one understands it.

Crazed Woman Is Out Of Focus

Have you ever heard the old saying: "You are so ugly you will break the camera."? That is what happened here. This woman's mood is so strange, that the camera could not focus properly.

Palladium Marque For Blink 182

Note that T-Mobile sponsored this concert. The next day, T-Mobile and Microsoft announced that all Sidekick user data had been "lost". The Monday following I read that T-Mobile had stopped selling the Sidekick.
Yikes!

Blink 182 Fans Await The Box Office Opening

Early afternoon on October 9th, fans of Blink 182 started queuing up along Sunset Boulevard. That is the day before the concert. This pix is from the corner of Argyle & Sunset, facing east. It's 100 feet or more to the box office windows.

West Side of Border's Books Building

This photo, shows the north-east side of Sunset Blvd and the latest advertising for the forthcoming 2012, which I have blogged about a month or a little more ago. Taken from in front of the Cinerama Dome.
