Closed for the Oscars 2011 edition

 I'm guessing but I believe that this is the longest, ever, that Hollywood Blvd. is going to be closed to automobile traffic between Highland Avenue and La Brea Avenue, due to the Oscar ceremony.


These information lights, (nothing like: "Your Name in Lights") are at the north west corner of the intersection of Vine Street and Hollywood Boulevard.

While there is too little to photograph, immediately to the right of where this picture was taken, in the parking lot that was built after Basque the nightclub was torn down. This is where Lindsay Lohan celebrated her 21st birthday. What is there now is large wooden crates, some airfreight from Korea. A large, fancy porta-potty was near the property line with the Redbury Hotel. Usually commodes that nice are for film productions. But, it could be that an Oscar party will be hosted on that parking lot, under a tent. Or it could be a station for caterers to prep food for a party at the W or the Redbury.

Trompe-l'œil Art Deco Apartment Building in Hollywood

I've posted about this apartment building before. When I first saw it, I thought: "No Way!" but it has finally been completed. So I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that the south facade of the building is being painted to look like a proscenium arched stage. The curtains are being pulled back from the right side of the stage, and you, dear audience, can now see the show. Notice the painter in the upper left corner finishing the illusion. This is the first piece of Trompe-l'œil I've ever seen in Hollywood. In the foreground is a parking lot that once was a nightclub Basque where Lindsay Lohan celebrated a birthday. It burned down under mysterious circumstances and was never rebuilt. I'm somewhat incredulous that what replaced the club was a parking lot.

August 30th 2010 - NOTHING HAPPENED IN HOLLYWOOD!

And here is the proof! The fabled Sunset-Vine Tower has NO ad on it's east side. If you click the picture you can see the CNN building in the background. In a moment of unusualness, the camera caught the light at yellow at Sunset and Argyle.

Dancing!!! In Hollywood? Authorities Notified - Step To Be Taken

Frankly, My Dear Readers I hope you are as shocked as I am to learn that a DANCE HALL is opening in Hollywood California.


Your Rounder, walked out of his abode and onto the street to bring you all the latest gossip and truth.

This sign, a sign of infamy, surely, was stuck on a doorway, on Argyle Street, which is a side street in Hollywood. Running north and south, the first street east of Vine is a place where most people do not visit. Not dangerous mind-you, it's just a side street and there is nothing there. Well I though there was nothing there until I got a picture of this diabolical plan for a DANCE HALL. 


This DANCE HALL is sure to bring an unsavory element to the W Hotel, of which I have posted before. Given the upscale standard of the W, I must say I'm shocked that a DANCE HALL would be allowed on their premises, which will be located at 6250 Hollywood Blvd. (Suite 1200). While the photograph is quite fuzzy, I'm pretty sure this Hall of Shame and Infamy is run by none other than Victor Drai, the second wickedest man in Hollywood.

This is the Cheers of Hollywood. Hollywood, taken as an area of Los Angeles, does not have a lot of bars. Restaurants that have bars and Nightclubs that have bars, it has a-plenty. But not your local. The Frolic Room is the exception. It's got locals hanging out nightly. This bar is in the Pantages Theater building and often people waiting to see a stage play will wander in there and have a drink while waiting for the show to start. Otherwise, it's just a place for locals who like to spend their time where everybody knows their name.

This Art Deco era artifact has a rather official look about it. Something like a government building. It is, in fact, an auto body repair shop. At least it's been that for the last 30 years or so.

I have always wondered why Hollywood has a Chamber of Commerce. There is very little actual business in Hollywood. Lots of cheap souvenir shops, too many tatoo and piercing shops and lots of cafes and restaurants. The C of C couldn't possibly help those owner's image. Never the less, Hollywood has it's own Chamber. And for those Rounder Readers that think that there is a lot of Motion Picture & Television biz in H'wd., I must inform you that you need to look in North Hollywood, Burbank, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Culver City and the South Beach Cities, 'cause Hollywood hasn't had much Show Business, since the mid-to-late 60s.

Dolores del Rio

This is a statue of Dolores del Rio and she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 1620 Vine Street, in recognition of her contributions to the motion picture industry.

New in Town

It isn't every city that can have moving advertising. Or maybe only Los Angeles can afford advertising of movies on the sides of buses. This is Renee Zellweger's 34th motion picture. The photo was taken along Hollywood Blvd. between Highland Ave. and Vine St.

Two fires burned out two businesses in Hollywood over the last 10 days (today is Wednesday, April 30, 2008). Off Vine was the first and Basque, at the north-west corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine Street burned this morning around 5:30 am. As with all suspicious fires, the Arson Squad was there, late this afternoon. More pictures of Eva Longoria Parker's restaurant BESO. This afternoon around 5:00 pm, I saw a photo model shoot at the front door. BESO stands on the south-west corner of Hollywood Blvd. at Ivar Street. Ivar St. also has the Hollywood Public Library further south of BESO.










My pix from in and around Hollywood California. I used to put them up on Google Earth, but now I have my own weblog. I hope you find them entertaining. The World Palladium is finally being remodeled after more than 4 decades of decline. I hope the remodeling will reflect more of what Hollywood is supposed to represent. The restaurant: Off Vine, burned down about a week ago. It's address is: 6263 Leland Way, Los Angeles, CA 90028. That's just one block south of Sunset Blvd. and only a few feet east of Vine Street. The Bowery is a small bar and restaurant. Of the three restaurants located on the south side of Sunset Blvd., just east of Vine Street, it is the most interesting looking. Magnolia and Fabiolus, the two restaurants that sandwich the Bowery are a bit larger, though. The tall glass skyscraper was built by Dick Clark of American Bandstand fame. At the time of it's construction, it was the tallest privately owned building in Los Angeles, only the LA City Hall was taller. I could not resist a photo of the Sunset Blvd. bus. That's route number 2, which runs from downtown Los Angeles, all the way out the Pacific Coast Highway.
