Immediately Before The OSCARs 2011

The OSCARs make getting around Hollywood a mess. But that's a small price to pay for seeing so many good looking women come Sunday night.

Crazed Woman Is Out Of Focus

Have you ever heard the old saying: "You are so ugly you will break the camera."? That is what happened here. This woman's mood is so strange, that the camera could not focus properly.

Roosevelt Hotel Advertising

Your Rounder is not Redundant. The adverts on the side of the Roosevelt Hotel change. From time to time, as there is time, I will post a new pix of the side of the building.

And, NO, there is no discount for getting a room where the windows are covered by the advert. This is LOS ANGELES.

Gentlemen: "I've come to see the elephant".

"I've come to see the elephant", is a phrase no longer in popular use, but in common use in the 19th century. The meaning of it is still debated somewhat, today, "seeing the elephant", still strikes me as meaning

I want to see something fabled and exotic.

In the 19th century, most Americans lived on farms, and cities weren't as overgrown with concrete as they are today. Back then many people would be familiar with barnyard animals and even wild critters that inhabit the woods and streams of America. Seeing an elephant would mean the circus was in town. Seeing the elephant would mean: "I've had something special happen to me".

That's my guess at it anyway. This is a closeup of a reproduction elephant based on the movie: Intolerance by D.W. Griffith.

Kodak Theater Balcony View

This is a view from the Kodak Theater (OSCARS) balcony nearest Hollywood Boulevard. The view is to the south east.

Across the Boulevard, at the El Capitan Theater, G-Force is showing.

Legally Blonde the Musical

Legally Blonde, now a stage play, based on the motion picture which had loveable Reese Witherspoon starring in it, has come to the Pantages Theater.

The theater was build as part of the Pantages' Vaudeville circuit, buy the "Great Depression", caused it to become a movie palace.

The W Hotel has completed it's construction of a large hotel and residence complex just across the street from the Pantages and that should provide needed revenue for live stage productions in Los Angeles.

Cinecon's CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL

This two sided poster was scotch-taped to the newspaper kiosk in front of the Raleigh Studios on Van Ness Avenue, below Melrose. It's a twist on the film festival circuit, in that rather than celebrating the new, it celebrates the past. By past, I mean films from the 1920s and 1930s.

The Furry Thing is a Microphone

Rounder Readers,

Be at ease. The thing in the foreground is a microphone, not some rodent about to eat your truly.

The camera crew was "shooting" a tour bus for it's commercial. The sound man, and I almost had words, as I told him, "you're in my shot". He thought I was being a "stalker". Too bad.

Notice The Similarity

While your Hollywood Rounder cannot be perfectly sure, please notice that the gentleman standing on the left bears a striking facial resemblance to the gentleman standing on the right.

Kisses Blown To The Wind?

Marilyn Monroe, seen here, is blowing kisses to the photographer or her boyfriend. I was so busty busy with framing this shot that I forgot to see where those kisses were going. However, tomorrow, The Hollywood Rounder will reveal the "true" Marilyn.

Storm Troopers Confront Tourists

We all knew that Darth Vader and the Evil Empire were evil! They are now broke (French: fauché). How could this have come to pass? Here the Hollywood Rounder found them begging tourists for money (Spanish: Pesos). Pictured we see Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper arguing about splitting the day's take. By the bye: Yours Truly did not help these evildoers by giving them any spare change. The Los Angeles Police Department seems ineffectual in removing this menace. These aliens must have far more powerful weapons. Cleverly they always appear in crowded areas, making the change of collateral damage likely, and the chance of being removed by the authorities unlikely.

N.B. --- The Hollywood Rounder has gone to great lengths to show off his multi-lingual skills, today, so you are so advised ... even though he is fluent in neither French nor Spanish (Spanish: Castilliano).
